My name is Joyce Alverson. I was saved at age 7 in my home church in North Carolina. I thank God for
the part that a wonderful, godly Mother; a great pastor, Dr. Jack Hudson (who is now is heaven); and the bus ministry had in my salvation. Growing
up in a Bible-believing church with great Sunday school teachers and youth directors led me to want to be in God’s will and give Him my life.
After gradating from high school, I felt the Lord leading me to full-time Christian work. I went to Tennessee Temple University to further
my education and prepare myself for the Lord’s work. During my third year in Bible College I surrender to be a missionary. The Lord
gave me a Bible verse which confirmed God’s calling to the mission field-
John 15:16 – “Ye have not chosen me, but I have chosen you, and ordained you, that ye should go and
bring forth fruit, and that your fruit should remain: that whatsoever ye shall ask of the Father in my name, he may give it to you.”
Upon graduating from College, the Lord led me to New York City with Baptist International Missions as a Missionary-Teacher where I served for
27 years. During these 27 years, I taught elementary grades and some high school courses; was an assistant principal for a few years; worked as
the church secretary; taught various Sunday school children & teen classes; taught a ladies Bible class; oversaw the children’s churches;
assisted the Sunday School superintendent; worked as a bus captain in a Spanish area of Brooklyn, led a ladies soul winning group and taught in
our Bible College. I praise the Lord for the ministry he gave me in New York.
Recently, the Lord brought a godly, Christian man in my life that has for many years given his life to God as a minister and missionary. In
May of this year, I became a missionary wife to Dr. Jeff Alverson who serves as World Coordinator and Assistant Director of Military Missions
with Baptist International Missions. We look forward to serving Lord together in Military Missions.
